Student Organization: Business Professionals of America (BPA) is a national student organization that provides the opportunity for the development of leadership skills, personal and professional growth, and career related competencies. Your involvement will enhance your social awareness, civic responsibility, and understanding of the business community.
General: A wide offering of business classes provides the student the opportunity to prepare for a career in business/office vocations. By following one of the curricula outlined below, he/she could gain the skills needed to go directly into a job following high school.
0717 KEYBOARDING PRODUCTION (BE 0130)
Grades 9 - 12 Elective Semester Course This course is for students who wish to develop their keyboarding ability. The one semester course is designed to apply keyboarding skills in formatting and producing letters, tables, reports, and memos on window based personal computers.Speed and accuracy are emphasized. Original composition at the keyboard and using unarranged or rough draft materials are integrated throughout the semester. This course is the initial course required before taking all other computer skills courses.
0720 BUSINESS COMPUTER APPLICATIONS I (BE 0310)
Grades 10 - 12 Elective Semester Course Pre-requisite: Keyboarding Production Business Computer Applications I is a one-semester course designed to acquaint students with advanced Word skills and an introduction to Excel. The first quarter exposes the student to advanced Word skills that can be used in a variety of situations in regards to keying letter, tables, reports, memos, etc. Excel is a spreadsheet program that introduces students to its basics using formulas, logic statements and requires the students to develop their own projects in its use.
0721 BUSINESS COMPUTER APPLICATIONS II (BE 0320)
Grades 10 - 12 Elective Semester Course Pre-requisite: Business Computer Applications I This is a one-semester course introduces the student to Microsoft Power Point and Access. Both these programs are used extensively in a variety of business situations and organizations. Microsoft Power Point is a slide-show program which allows the student to discover how to organize a presentation to any size audience. Access is a database program that introduces the students to advanced methods and applications of records storage.
0754 BUSINESS LAW (BE 0151)
Grades 11 - 12 Elective Semester Course Business Law is a course designed to introduce students to the different types of laws that exist for different groups, the different types and levels of crimes, the varying punishments for violating the law, and a look at contracts and binding agreements.
0205 ECONOMICS (BE 0200)
Grade 11-12 Required Semester Course Economics is a course designed to introduce students to the study of economics. Students get a "hands on" experience in the study of the theories and principles of marketing economics that make the free enterprise system work in our society. The curriculum was developed by Junior Achievement, Inc. and includes visits to the classroom by a local business consultant.
0782 ACCOUNTING I (BE 0140)
Grade 10, 11, and 11,12 Elective Semester Course Pre-requisite: Accounting I-Algebra with C or better, 10th w/permission. Accounting II-Accounting I with C or better. Accounting I presents the fundamental principles and emphasizes the theory of accounting. The accounting cycle is presented as it pertains to proprietorships, partnerships and corporations. An accounting simulation evaluates students' mathematical accuracy, work ethic, and understanding of accounting cycle.
Accounting II presents advanced principles of accounting and is designed to emphasize the use of more advanced and professional accounting procedures. Units of study include Departmentalized Accounting, Accounting Control Systems, General Accounting Adjustments, Corporate Accounting, Management Accounting and Cost Accounting. Extensive accounting vocabulary and theory challenges students to develop skills they will use in pursuing a career in the business and accounting field. Grade 11-12 Elective Semester Course Desktop Publishing is a one-semester course using Word 2000, Microsoft Publisher and PowerPoint for producing documents ready for publication. Students will gain skill in general desktop publishing concepts including layout, fonts, graphics, macros and styles.
0761 INTERNET-HTML ( BE 0318)
Grade 11-12 Elective Semester Course Pre-requisite: Desktop Publishing, Teacher Approval This course is covering the language of the Web, HTML and Dream weaver to create Web pages. Research, decision making and communication will be taught on the Internet. 0760 INTRODUCTION TO TECHNOLOGY SUPPORT ( BE 0270) ADVANCED TECHNOLOGY SUPPORT (BE 0271)
Grade 10,11,12 Elective Semester Course Pre-requisite: Teacher Approval This course provides the basic knowledge and skills necessary for the Technology Support program. It is intended to provide the student with knowledge on how computers and microprocessors work, how operating systems function, and how peripheral equipment is interfaced with them. Student will learn how to troubleshoot a computer, install hardware and software, install and connect peripheral equipment, configure interface cards, analyze memory requirements, and determine computer environmental needs. The installation of hardware such as CD-ROM units, Hard Drives, Network Cards, and other equipment in district computers will be a common part of the instruction.
0764 NETWORKING APPLICATIONS (TI0551)
Grade 11 - 12 Elective Semester Course Pre-requisite: Introduction to Technology Support (BE0270) and Teacher Approval This course provides the student with a basic understanding of the general operation and environmental needs of a local area network using Ethernet, twisted pair and other applications. Student will diagnose network applications, examine network configurations, install network components, make cable connections and patch cords, install software and drivers, and maintain network installations, including performing backup and restoration of data files. Students will be expected to provide assistance to local personnel and to assist in training others on network applications.
