Mission Statement:

The purpose of this program is to provide students with an opportunity to learn about health occupations and begin to assemble the skills and background to pursue a job or post high school training in health occupation.

0726 INTRODUCTION TO HEALTH PROFESSIONS (HP 130)
Grade 10, 11, 12 - One year course
Prerequisite: C or better in Biology 1 and instructor approval

This two-semester course is specifically designed for students interested in exploring the healthcare professions. The student will have an introduction to anatomy and physiology. Body systems are covered throughout the year in conjunction with related medical terminology, pathophysilogy, and current medical treatment. The student will participate in a variety of learning opportunities including Healthcare Provider CPR. Guest speakers from local medical facilities provide the student with relevant information to help them make informed decisions concerning their academic and professional goals. $5 fee for Healthcare Provider CPR card. Students that complete yearlong course satisfy health graduation requirement.

0716 CERTIFIED NURSE ASSISTANT (HP230)
Grade 11, 12 One year course
Prerequisite: Introduction to Health Professions with a C average or better by the end of second semester and successful completion of application process.
This is a two-semester course. Classroom time is spent focusing on advanced medical topics, and skills required for future careers in health professions. The course consists of classroom lecture and skills practice. Forty hours of clinical experience will be done at Weiser Memorial Hospital and Weiser Rehab and Care Center. Clinical hours will be scheduled outside of school hours. After completion of class and clinical hours the student is eligible to take the CNA exam for certification. Students must be 16 years old to take the CNA exam. The student must provide own transportation for clinical experience. $47 CNA exam fee. additional costs: cost of immunization, uniform pants, top, and white closed toe shoes.

 

0730 EMERGENCY MEDICAL TECHNICIAN - Basic (HP 233)
Grades 12 One year course
Prerequisite: Introduction to Health Professions with a C average or better, appication and instructor recommendation.
Classroom time spent focusing on basic emergency care, and those skills required for future careers in the health profession. The student will have an opportunity to obtain the information required to pass the basic EMT exam. Students must be 18 years of age by the end of school year. Costs include, but are not limited to: cost of immunizations, uniform pants and top. Student must have a current Healthcare Provider CPR card.

0728 COMPUTER BASED PHARMACY TECHNICIAN PROGRAM (HP 238)
Grades 12 One semester
Prerequisite: Introduction to Health Professions with a C average or better, application and instructor recommendation.
This computer-based class called Pass Assured is a new generation computer training system spcifically designed to train Pharmacy Technicians to pass the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board exam. The interactive testing portion of this product is located on secure web servers. This product is designed for use in a classroom environment or when an educator's or coach's interaction with the student is needed or desired. The system includes a web based "Educator's Control Panel" which allows the educator "controll access" for the student to the web based "Student Learning Center" as well as monitoring student progress. Multiple choice exams can be taken by students at home. Tutored exams are taken at school. Course length is approximately 89 hours of classroom time on the computer, 61 hours of homework and 30 hours of job shadow-total hours 180. Students will meet with an instructor once a week. $215 to cover the cost of computer software; computer access is required.

0729 PHARMACY TECHNICIAN - CO-OP
Grades 12 One semester
Prerequisite: Introduction to Health Professions, 1st semester Computer Based Pharmacy Technician - with a C average or better, and instructor recommendation.
After successful completion of the computer-based program in semester 1, the student must find, apply for and maintain a pharmacy-tech student position. The Pharmacy Tech student must register with the Idaho Board of Pharmacy as a Pharmacy Tech student at the cot of $35.00. Students cannot assist with filling prescriptions unless they are employed by a pharmacy and registered with the board. After successful completion of the course, the student may sit for the national PTCB Certification Exam. $35.00 registration with the Idaho Board of Pharmacy.
