Indianhead Academy Alternative High School is a School of Choice
Indianhead Academy opened its doors for the first time in the fall of 2012. The school is designed for high school students who have had difficulty completing their graduation requirements in a traditional high school setting. Indianhead Academy requires students to meet the state of Idaho graduation requirements. The school is sponsored by Weiser High School which means students attending Indianhead Academy are eligible to participate in WHS courses and activities. The difference is in how the program is scheduled.
Indianhead Academy resides in historic Slocum Hall, the site of Weiser High School during the 1950's and 60's. It is now the home of the National Old Time Fiddlers Inc. and the district's alternative high school, just across the parking lot from Weiser High School.
Students can enroll in up to three courses each session. There are five sessions available during the school year. Classes are 2 hours and 5 minutes in length and run for 29 days (Monday through Thursday). Graduation is conducted for eligible students at the end of the session in which a student completes their graduation requirements. Students may choose to graduate from Weiser High School if they meet the additional WHS graduation requirements. Classes are taught using a blended approach. Some courses are online, but many are taught by certified teachers. A full time lead teacher and assistant manage the program. See the IAHS Philosophy link for more information about Indianhead Academy, including eligibility requirements and the school's "vision" for its students.
