McKinney-Vinto Homeless Assistance

The McKinney-Vento Act, a federal law, was created to address issues homeless children and youth face with enrolling, attending, and succeeding in school. Under this program, the Weiser School District ensures that each homeless child and youth has equal access to the same free public education as other children and youth as per Idaho Code 33-1404Homeless children and youth may attend any school district or school within a district without payment of tuition when it is determined to be in the best interest of that child.

The McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act, as reauthorized by the Every Student Succeeds Act, makes federal funds available to each state to support programs that meet the needs of homeless children and youth.
