Bus Stop Safety

The Weiser School District takes our communities safety seriously. Here are a few tips to help keep you and your children safe on their way to and from school:

Walking to the School Bus Stop

Parents or guardians should show their children a safe walking path to use.
Obey all traffic signals, signs, and/or crossing guards; Use a crosswalk where available.
Walk with a buddy, if possible, and be aware of your surroundings.
Never talk to strangers- If a stranger approaches or tries to get a child to come to him/her, the child should run home, to a neighbor's house, or another safe place and ask an adult for help.
Wear bright colors or reflective material. It makes you more visible to traffic.

At the Bus Stop

Your child should arrive at the bus stop at least five minutes before the bus arrives.
Stand at least five giant steps (10 feet) away from the curb.
Wait until the bus stops and the door opens before getting onto the bus.
If your student needs to cross the street, make sure the bus driver can see you and you can see the driver. Be sure to watch for traffic coming both ways. Cross the street IN FRONT OF the bus.
Use the handrail to enter and exit the bus.
Once you exit the bus, walk 10 giant steps away from the bus.
If you drop something near or under the bus, tell the driver - DO NOT PICK IT UP! The driver may not see you.
Parents and guardians are encouraged to supervise their children at all school bus stops before and after school.

Q. Who is eligible to ride the school bus?

Students living beyond a 1 1/2-mile radius from their school may travel on district-approved buses. Buses will also be provided if their school route has been declared a safety busing zone.

Q. Does after school and summer school programs provide bus transportation?

Some after school programs and summer school programs do provide transportation. If you are unsure, please contact your child's school.

Q. How do I find my assigned bus stop information?

To find out your correct bus, please contact the transportation supervisor May West at: 208-414-0148

Q. Who is responsible for my child at the bus stop?

Parents or guardians are responsible for their students while traveling to or from the bus and while waiting for the bus. It is recommended that parents accompany their student or their student is with a buddy.

Please remind your student to respect others' property while at the bus stop.

Student Conduct on Buses Policy

Riding the school bus is a privilege for students, not a right. Students are expected to follow the same behavioral standards while riding School District vehicles as are expected on school property and at school activities, functions, and events and additional specific transportation safety rules. All school rules are in effect while a student is riding a District vehicle or at a school bus stop.

Weiser School District On Bus Cell Phone Policy

The Weiser School District is dedicated to the safety of our students. Per District Policy 3265 students must have personal electronic communication device turned off and kept out of sight. Students will be allowed to use cell phones on extracurricular bus trips to inform their parents/guardians of the bus arrival times.

Students must obtain permission from any individual appearing in a photograph or video prior to posting on any social media networking site or other internet site.

Students violating the provisions of District Policy 3265 are subject to disciplinary action, including losing the privilege of brining the device onto school property, detention, suspension or expulsion.
